Sandy's Yellow Chicken Dip and Potato Dip

Like my yellow chicken dip recipe, I made this one after missing the food from Holland. Except I knew how to make this one because I worked in a small shop when I was 16 and we used to sell 20kg of this dip each week. My boss had great big hands and he used to mix it all up with those big hands in two huge stainless steel tubs. Mum still buys it now.

There's no chicken in this recipe, but it does have whole egg mayonnaise; Thomy or Best Foods brand. And it comes with the same condition as the yellow chicken dip recipe: You MUST use these brands of mayonnaise. My colleague thought she'd cheat and use a standard Australian mayo and complained to me that I must have given her incorrect proportions. "It was AWFUL!!" she exclaimed. She lied about the brand of mayo used but couldn't stand herself for doing so and out came the truth after a while. Don't let me catch anyone doing this!!—Sandy


  • 2 or 3 large potatoes, cooked and mashed (NO milk or butter)
  • 1 granny smith apple, grated
  • 1 small brown onion, grated
  • 4 sweet/sour gherkins, grated
  • 1 tsp mild English mustard
  • 4 tablespoons mayo (Must be whole egg mayonnaise!!)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (tomato sauce)
  • 5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Lots of black pepper


Mix all and serve with crackers and/or crunchy bread.
